A message from Camilla
Love your neighbour
I was deeply concerned when violence and unrest spread across the country following the tragic killings of three young girls in Southport.
It was heart-breaking that one act of senseless violence led to so many more senseless acts of violence. Since the violence was largely aimed at Muslim communities I decided to take flowers to the Shrewsbury Mosque ahead of their Friday prayers as a sign of solidarity from our church. Other people were there showing solidarity, too, including our own John Goodwin and other members of the church had also felt moved to reach out to the mosque, including our interfaith group members.
I was heartened to hear that the mosque had received many messages of support from people in the nearby community.
It was also good to see that a powerful stand up to racism demonstration took place peacefully in the town centre the following day.
As Desmond Tutu said : Goodness is stronger than evil, love is stronger than hate.
Church Heating
The new boiler was installed in August and Nicky has done a grand job working out the control and timing system. It has some clever technology, reading outside temperatures to start heating early when it is clear that more heat is required. We will be able to remotely control the system.
Harvest
We are celebrating Harvest with a Bring-and-Share Lunch on September 29th. Please liaise with Glenys about what you will bring to share. We will be supporting Self-Help Africa with a collection.
Meditation
Our non-denominational Meditation Group is continuing across the summer/autumn. The Group meets at 2.15 on a Friday in the Vestry. It is a friendly group who enjoy a cup of tea before parting.
